UK Skilled Worker Visa Immigration Changes
The UK government has introduced new rules for the Skilled Worker Visa to control immigration and focus on highly skilled professionals. These changes mainly affect the skill level, salary requirements, job eligibility, and dependents. Some relaxations are still available for applicants who applied before the new rules came into effect.
Higher skill level required:
From 22 July 2025, most new Skilled Worker Visa jobs must be at RQF Level 6 or above (degree-level jobs). However, applicants who received a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) before 21 July 2025 can still qualify for some lower-skill roles that are no longer eligible under the new rules.
Increased minimum salary requirements:
The UK has increased salary limits for Skilled Worker Visa holders applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after 22 July 2025:
- General Skilled Worker: £41,700
- PhD in a relevant field: £37,500
- STEM PhD / Immigration Salary List (ISL) / New Entrant: £33,400
- Workers who applied before 4 April 2024: £31,300
- PhD holders who applied before 4 April 2024: £28,200
Rules for existing visa holders:
Applicants who already hold a UK Skilled Worker Visa or applied before 22 July 2025 can:
- Renew their visa
- Change employers
- Continue working in eligible lower-skill roles as long as they meet the updated conditions.
Second job option:
Skilled workers can take a second job if the role is listed under the Immigration Salary List (ISL) or meets the RQF Level 6 requirement.
Lower-skill jobs for old applicants:
Applicants who applied before 22 July 2025 may continue working in jobs below RQF Level 6 only if the job is listed in the Appendix Skilled Occupations.
