What is Canada PNP Draw?

The Provincial Nominee Program or the Canada PNP is a program that allows people to migrate to a specific Canadian territory or province.

Nearly 80 different PNPs are available in Canada immigration, each with specific qualifying requirements. The PNP program enables provinces to meet their immigration needs by helping them fill positions that are in demand and address labour shortages in their province.

The majority of PNPs require applicants that have studied or worked in that province, or they need to have a job offer from an employer in that province in order to obtain a work visa.

A provincial nomination will enable people to get PR in two ways, by adding 600 CRS points in Express Entry application and enabling you to apply for your PR visa directly to IRCC.

Types of PNP Draws

PNP is the next best option for candidates who wish to move to Canada. The candidates who were not qualified in the Express Entry can choose this pathway. 600 additional points will be added to candidate’s profile if the candidate receives a PNP nomination which makes the candidate qualify for Express Entry.

The Provincial Nomination Program has two categories:

Enhanced PNPs – This type of PNP uses Express Entry system to draw candidates

Base PNPs – Works independently without Express Entry

Under Base PNPs – below is the list of programs to which a candidate can choose to apply

When is the next PNP Draw?

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws for Canada are typically conducted as follows:

Prince Edward Island PNP: These draws are predicted to be held monthly.

British Columbia PNP: These draws are predicted to be held every fortnight.

Other Provincial Nominee Programs: All the eleven territories have draws and updates, with more than 80 PNP streams the schedule can vary.

Note: These are general predictions and the actual dates may vary depending upon the dates, times, and draws. IRCC determines the cut off scores, frequency, and timings for these draws and can vary depending on different factors including labour market, Canadian economy, and the immigration targets.

How to get nominated in Canada PNP?

In Canada, the federal government makes all the final immigration decisions, not the provincial government. As a result, PNPs are a two part procedures. In order to receive a provincial nomination, you must first apply to the province. You must then reapply to the federal government for your status as a permanent resident of Canada, even if the provincial approves you.

You will need to apply particularly in that province or territory where you wish to migrate to, and it is essential to meet the requirements needed for jobs in terms of having work experience, skills, and educational qualifications.

The province or territory will then determine whether you meet their employment standards. If they consider your profile they will inform you on how long it will take to process the application.

Once the province or territory approves your application, you must submit an application for permanent residency within the time frame that they specify.

The PNP program is eligible for people who;

  • Have necessary skills, qualifications, work experience, and education to be able to contribute to the economy of a specific territory or province.
  • Wish to live in that territory or province.
  • Wish to become permanent resident

There are two processes for getting a nomination:

Express Entry process

  • In order to be eligible for a nomination, you must qualify for the PNP of the territory or province where you are applying to.
  • You can apply by contacting the territory or province, or, by creating an Express Entry profile by selecting the territories and provinces.
  • If you receive a notification of interest, you can contact them and apply for a nomination.
  • If you get nominated, update your Express Entry profile in order to receive 600 additional points.

Non-Express Entry process

  • In order to be eligible, make sure to qualify for the PNP of the territory or province.
  • Contact the territory or province for getting a nomination.
  • If you are nominated, you can apply for permanent residency online.

Canada PR via Provincial Nominee Program

To get a Canada PR via PNP, you need to follow few steps:

Eligibility: Find out the eligibility and requirements for the available PNPs in order to determine the options available and to choose the right PNP.

Application process: Determine your choice and complete the Provincial Nominee Program application and submit it to the territory or province.

Certificate: After completion of your application, if you are eligible you will receive an official Provincial Nomination certificate which allows you to move to the next step.

Permanent residence application: Apply to the federal government for permanent residency in Canada. You can apply through Express Entry if you are nominated through an Express-Entry aligned PNP, if not, you must submit a paper application.

Certain PNP streams accept applications on the basis of first come first serve; others demand that applicants submit an Expression of Interest beforehand. Additionally, many PNP streams—referred to as base streams function independently of the federal Express Entry immigration system, and other PNP streams are in line with Express Entry.
