Technical University of Munich (MBA Programs)

The Technical University of Munich, known also as TU Munich, or TUM, is a public research university that is located in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It has campuses in Freising, Garching, Heilbronn, Straubing, and Singapore. The university specializes in technical subjects like applied and natural sciences, engineering, medicine, technology, and management. It has 15 schools and departments that are supported by 13 research centers.

As of date, TUM provides 182-degree programs in the disciplines of Engineering Sciences, Management, Medicine, Natural & Life Sciences, and Social Sciences. 

Although for certain courses at TU Munich, the medium of instruction is also English, fundamental knowledge of the German language would prove to be helpful for foreign students.

The Technical University of Munich does not charge tuition fees for its courses. Students need only bear the expenses of the semester fees which also take care of the Student Union Fee and a Semester ticket for using public transport. 

About half of the students at TUM are foreign nationals hailing from various nations. The university has two intakes for admissions the semesters of Summer and Winter. 

Aspiring students are offered admission based on various factors like the scores in GATE or/GRE, language proficiency score, work experience, and achievements at workplaces. Indian students should get a minimum of 75% in their qualifying exams to be eligible to apply to the TUM.

TUM Campus

In all four campuses in Germany, TUM offers its students various services and facilities to help them develop holistically. Its school of management is housed in its main campus in Munich.

Tum does not offer on-campus housing. But it offers assistance to foreign students in their search for off-campus accommodations.

Admission Process at TUM 

The acceptance rate at the Technical University of Munich is 8%. For most of the degree programs, new applications are accepted only in the winter semester.

TUM Fee Costs

TUM does not charge any tuition fees. However, students are required to pay a student union fee and a semester ticket fee twice every year throughout their period of study. Some master’s level executive programs may charge additional fees from students.

Scholarships fromTUM 

Full scholarships are offered at TUM Graduate School. It offers completion grants and bridge funding. There are, however, various scholarships for doctoral students that are provided externally. 

The scholarships that the TUM offers are International Student, Deutschlandstipendium, and Leonzhard Lorenz Foundation, among others. They range from €500 to €10,500. 

Furthermore, students seeking financial aid can also opt for work. The job career portal of TUM has over 3,000 types of jobs that the students can opt for.

School of Management at TUM

 More than 5,800 students enrolled at TUM’s management school in 2020. The objective of its MBA programs is to develop personnel to resolve complex business issues. The school also offers an Executive MBA in Business & IT in a part-time format with a segmental structure; enabling working professionals and other students living abroad to complete their studies flexibly within two years.

Alumni of TUM 

For TUM’s alumni, the following services are offered. 

  • It conducts events and formalities to honor the alumni for their degrees.
  • They are subscribed to the university’s free newsletter.
  • There is in place an Online Community Forum to establish alumni groups, store their contact details, and connect them with former peers.
