My Journey as a Nurse from India to Canada
Early Life and Family Values
Caring, empathy, attention to detail, and problem-solving are qualities every nurse should have. Looking back, I realize I always had these qualities, even though I never planned to become a nurse initially.
We were a happy family of four: my parents, my younger sister, and me. My father worked as a doctor in a government hospital, and my mother was a homemaker. Due to his long working hours, we did not get to spend much time with my father, but whenever he had a holiday, he made sure to dedicate the entire day to us. Those moments meant a lot to us as a family.
A Life-Changing Phase After 12th Standard
Life took an unexpected turn when I entered my 12th standard. My father was diagnosed with stage-two cancer and was admitted to a nearby cancer hospital. My sister was five years younger than me, so I stayed home to take care of her while my mother stayed with my father in the hospital.
Despite the emotional stress, I appeared for my exams and passed with decent marks. I had always dreamed of becoming a doctor like my father, but during that time, I had no one to discuss my dreams with. Whenever I met my father, he would say something that stayed with me forever: “We may have many good doctors, but getting a good nurse is a luxury.” Those words slowly shaped my future.
Choosing Nursing as My Career
By God’s grace and my mother’s care, my father recovered completely and returned home cancer-free. After two long years, he resumed his work, and I began my nursing training.
My father advised me to gain experience and later explore opportunities abroad, especially in Canada. I accepted nursing not just as a profession, but as a responsibility. After completing my graduation, I fully committed myself to building a career as a nurse.
Starting My Nursing Career in India
After finishing my training, I joined a reputed hospital and gained one year of hands-on experience. Working in a hospital environment strengthened my clinical skills and reaffirmed my passion for nursing.
After gaining experience, I decided it was time to follow my father’s advice and take the next big step toward Canada.
Discovering the Canadian Immigration Path
I applied for a Canadian work visa with the help of Y-Axis. From the very beginning, my experience with their team was extremely positive. They guided me clearly and professionally through every stage of the process, which gave me confidence and peace of mind.
Understanding the Express Entry System
Y-Axis explained Canada’s Express Entry system, which is managed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This system is designed to meet labor shortages by inviting skilled professionals like nurses to work and settle in Canada.
They helped me understand how my nursing background aligned well with Canada’s healthcare needs.
How Y-Axis Supported My Canada PR Journey as a Nurse
Y-Axis provided complete end-to-end support throughout my journey from India to Canada as a registered nurse.
Eligibility Check
I used Y-Axis’s free Canada immigration points calculator and scored 90 points, which confirmed that my nursing profile was strong and competitive under the Express Entry system for skilled nurses.
Resume Preparation
The Y-Axis team prepared a professional Canadian-style nursing resume that clearly highlighted my nursing skills, clinical training, hospital experience, and patient care expertise.
IELTS Coaching
To meet the language requirements for nurses in Canada, I enrolled in IELTS coaching with Y-Axis. Their structured training and practice sessions helped me achieve a good score and confidently meet the English language requirements for nursing professionals.
Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
Y-Axis handled my Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) process smoothly, ensuring that my nursing degree and qualifications from India were properly evaluated and recognized by Canadian authorities.
Job Search Assistance
Their job search team carefully researched and identified suitable nursing jobs in Canada, matching my experience as a nurse, clinical skills, and career goals.
Visa Interview Preparation
Y-Axis also prepared me for the nurse visa interview, guiding me on how to confidently present my nursing background, hospital experience, professional responsibilities, and future plans as a nurse in Canada.
Receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA)
After completing all the steps, I received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from a hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia. It was a deeply emotional moment for me. I felt proud of my journey as a nurse and extremely grateful to my parents for raising us with strong values, ethics, and honesty.
Applying for Canada PR
Y-Axis supported me through every phase of my Canada PR application as a nurse. They provided a detailed requirement checklist, which made the nursing PR process smooth and stress-free. With their guidance, I successfully applied for Canadian permanent residency as a nursing professional.

Starting a New Life in Vancouver, Canada
The entire process took a little over six months. Once I received confirmation from IRCC, I booked my flight to Vancouver. Within hours, I arrived in a city that many people dream of.
Vancouver welcomed me with its high-rise buildings, pleasant climate, scenic beauty, and warm people. My parents and sister traveled with me and stayed for a month before returning to India. I was excited to begin my everyday life and professional journey as a nurse in Canada.
Life in Canada Today
Today, I am living and working in Canada, continuing my nursing career with pride and confidence. Looking back, I truly believe that this journey would not have been possible without the constant support of Y-Axis.
Y-Axis has all my gratitude for standing by me at every step. I will surely reach out to them again when I plan to bring my parents to Canada permanently. If you are also planning to immigrate to Canada, remember the right path is the Y-Path, with the Y-Axis.
