Australia has a list of skilled occupations through which skilled workers can apply for Australia PR; this list is called the Skilled Occupations List—SOL. This list is aimed at the immigration of skilled workers for different types of jobs, such as long-term, short-term, and highly demanded visas.

Skilled Occupation List Categories

This list is further divided into 4 categories, and they are as follows:

STSOL: Short-Term Skilled Occupation List

• The Short-Term Skilled Occupation List has about 215 occupations.
• The visa is valid for 2 years and can be renewed for another 2 years from within the country.
• The applicant must meet all the requirements of the visa pathway through which the applicant is applying and should be working with the sponsor.
• Jobs such as florist, farmer, human resource manager, and production manager fall under this category.

MLTSSL: Medium and Long Term Strategic Skill List

• This list includes around 212 occupations and was created based on calculations of the labour market and its long-term impact on the Australian economy. 
• These occupations require workers with high skill levels.
• For skilled workers to apply under this visa, the applicant must meet all the requirements of the visa pathway through which they are applying.
• Jobs such as accountants, artistic directors, auditors, etc. fall under this category.

Regional Skills Occupation List

• There are nearly 77 occupations on this list, and these occupations are in demand in a specific region.
• The applicants whose occupation falls under this list must apply through Subclass 491 and are given 5 years to work in the chosen region.
• The applicant must meet all the requirements of the Subclass 491 Visa.
• Jobs such as winemaker, sports administrator, and post office manager fall under this category.

Skills in Demand list

• Australia has seen a rise in the shortage of employees in approximately 33% of the occupations; these occupations fall under the Skills in Demand List.
• They are issued a visa called Skills in Demand visa, which is a temporary visa with a quick processing time.
• The applicants must meet all the criteria of the Skills in Demand Visa, and their occupations should fall under this list to apply for Australia PR through this pathway.
• Jobs such as nurses, doctors, accountants, and artistic directors fall under this category.
