University of Geneva (UNIGE)

Introduction:

Established as a law school and theological seminary in 1559, the University of Geneva (UNIGE) became a public research university in 1873. It is the third-largest Swiss university by strength.

University Overview:

The University of Geneva is located in several parts of eastern Geneva and in the city of Carouge, which is close to it. It is spread over a large area.

University of Geneva Graduate Programs

It accommodates more than 17,650 students, of whom 63% are females and 38% are foreign nationals.    

It houses nine faculties and 13 interfaculty institutions and offers 136 programs in Bachelor's and Master's degrees and 87 PhD programs.

UNIGE offers undergraduate courses in French and a range of Master's programs in English for the benefit of international students.  

Unique Features:

It is renowned for research in bio-informatics, molecular biology, astrophysics, and physics of elementary particles. 

UNIGE has entered into many collaborative agreements with important international organizations, including the United Nations (UN), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the UNDP, among others.

Student Life:

At the University of Geneva, students can participate in extracurricular activities, workshops, concerts, tournaments, clubs, groups, shows, and camps, which will allow them to meet people, making them integrate into university life. 

Admission Process:

You can apply for a Bachelor's degree online by submitting the certificates required for admission. 

Applicants for the master's degree who do not have a Swiss bachelor's degree should apply online by February 28 for the 2024-2025 Autumn Semester.

Among the notable alumni of UNIGE are 10 Nobel Prize winners, in addition to Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the UN, Ian Fleming, a British spy writer who created the iconic character of James Bond, and noted linguist Ferdinand de Saussure, among others.   

According to QS World University Rankings 2024, the University of Geneva is ranked 128 globally.
