US nationals will be able to travel to Brazil Visa-free from 17 June 2019. This was announced by the Government of Brazil later this week. Apart from the US, nationals of Australia, Canada, and Japan will also not require the Visa to arrive in Brazil. The change will become effective from 17 June.
Visitors arriving prior to this date to Brazil will
need an Electronic Visa. They can stay in the
nation for 3 months from the date of the first arrival. They can request an
extension for up to 6 months within a period of 12 months.
Brazil Visa
policy is being relaxed in recent years. It has launched the E-Visa in January
2018. This permitted Canadians,
Australians, Japanese, and Americans to apply for the Visa online. They
could thus skip a personal visit to the Consulate of Brazil, as quoted by the
Washington Post.
The Brazil E-Visa
fee was also reduced to $ 40 from $160. The Government has noticed an increase
in the Visa applications after this change. The numbers increased to 229, 767 in 2018 from 169, 910 in 2017.
