Overseas immigrants have diverse streams of Korea Visas to choose from depending on their purpose and length of stay in the nation. The major types of Work Visas are E-7, E-3, and E-1 Visas. The Korea Visas in C stream are for a short-term period. C-4 Visas are used for hiring immigrants for less than 3 months.
The Korea Visas
in D stream are for Education and specific job types. USD students engaged in
Ph.D. or MA course can opt for D-2 Visas.
These Visas do not permit the holders to lawfully work but there are certain
exceptions. D-4 Visas are for
education programs that do not confer a degree, as quoted by the IBS RE KR.
E stream Korea Visas are
for long-term employment:
• For Lecturers or Professors at a University:
E-1
• For Researchers: E-3
• For specialized jobs not necessarily based
on research: E-7
The F stream Korea Visas are the toughest
to be obtained:
• For Residents: F-2
• For accompanying children and spouse: F-3
• For ethnic Koreans with foreign
Citizenship: F-4
• For PR Visa holders: F-5
• For those who are married to a citizen of
Korea: F-6
If you are
already in Korea on a Landing or Tourist
Visa, it is not possible to transition to a Work Visa without first exiting from Korea. Majority of the freshly
hired overseas staff are recruited while they are residing outside Korea. They
need to apply for a Korea Visa at the Korean Consulate or Embassy nearest to
them.
Only the F-5 Visa permits the holders to cast
their vote in Korean local elections.
