The tuition fees for your course is an important factor when you choose your study abroad destination. If your option is Canada, here is some valuable information on the tuition fees for various undergraduate courses in Canada for this year.

Average increase in tuition fees

The tuition fees for international students in Canada had an average increase of 7.6% this year. There was an increase by CAD 29, 714 during this period.

For the 29% of international students enrolled in undergraduate courses for business, management and public administration, the average increase was CAD 28,680.

The tuition fees for engineering courses which 13% of international students opted for was CAD 33,703.

While very few international students opted for professional degree programs such as medicine, the average tuition fees were the highest for these courses which was between CAD 32,450 for medicine to CAD 63,323 for veterinary medicine.

The fees for international students in graduate programs rose by 4.4% to CAD 17,744 between 2019-20. The fees saw an increase in almost every province, except for Newfoundland and Labrador, where it remained the same.

Courses with the highest increase

The average annual tuition fees were the highest for professional degree programs like medicine, history, law, dentistry, pharmacy and optometry. The highest increase in average fees were for these five programs:

  • Dentistry ($21,717)
  • Medicine ($14,162)
  • Law ($12,388)
  • Optometry ($11,236)
  • Pharmacy ($10,687)

At the graduate level, the regular and executive MBA course remained the most expensive. The average tuition fees for the executive MBA course was $56,328 while the fees for a regular MBA was CAD 27,397.

The top five undergraduate courses with the highest fees were dentistry, medicine, optometry, law and Pharmacy.  Nursing, social and behavioral sciences, humanities and education were among the least expensive courses.

However, the actual fees for these undergraduate programs will vary depending upon the grants or financial assistance that they may get.
