
The immigrant population of the UK consists of migrants from a wide range of nations who reside in the UK. The composition of the UK immigrant population is diverse and the top 5 source nations for 2018 are:

The total
population of the UK in 2019 is 66.96
million as per the latest estimates of the United Nations. The Office of National Statistics in the UK
released the latest update based on fertility and immigration statistics. This
is in June every year, as quoted by the World Population Review.
The latest
report also reveals that 80% plus of the
population growth in the UK was due to immigration. This is more so in
recent years.
Migration Watch is a lobby
group in the UK. It has estimated the UK population increased by 6.6 million
between 2001 and 2016. Out of this, 5.4 million increases were due to the
immigrant population. This is after births to new migrants were included.
The net arrivals
of immigrants were 3.1 million. The growth of families of immigrants accounted
for another 2.3 million, adds the report.
ONS Migration Statistics Division’s Nicola White said that non-British and non-UK born population continued to
increase in 2018. This is as more individuals continued to arrive at the UK to
reside than exit to reside overseas for 1 or more years, she added.
London had the highest percentage of non-UK nationals
in 2018. The highest numbers were in the following
local authorities:
• Newham -
38%
• Westminster
- 36%
• Brent - 34%
The data of the
ONS is based on the survey of the households. It is not inclusive of most
individuals residing in communal establishments. Some residing in NHS
accommodation or students residing in halls of residences who have non-UK
resident parents are also not included.
