Philippines Visa on Arrival

The Philippines has announced that it would not do way with the visa-on-arrival facility for China. Instead, it would be reducing the validity of the visa-on-arrival to 30 days. Also, there will be no provision for extension for Chinese tourists. The announcement was made by the Philippines Dept. of Justice on 12th January.

Markk Perete, Justice Undersecretary, said that the new rule would not have a provision for extension for the visa-on-arrival. Also, the visa granted would be single-entry. That means that the visa would expire once the Chinese tourists exit the Philippines even if their stay was less than 30 days.

Mr Perete also said that all Chinese tourists visiting the Philippines must have a roundtrip ticket. Those visiting for tourism purpose also must have accommodation proof for every stop on their itinerary. Chinese tourists must only book tours through accredited tour operators, and they must be able to furnish accommodation proof.

Earlier, the visa-on-arrival granted to Chinese tourists, businessmen and athletes were valid for three months. There was a provision of extension for another three months bringing the total visa validity to six months.

The new rule also prohibits the conversion of the visa-on-arrival to any other visa like a Work Visa or a Resident Visa.

The Philippines has implemented these new rules in light of the increasing number of illegal Chinese workers in the country.
