The Spanish government has launched a new scheme under which nearly 900,000 migrants can get residency and work permits by 2027. The country plans to issue 300,000 residence or work permits in 2025 after the policy goes into effect in May 2025.
Under the new policy, Migrants can register as salaried workers or self-employed in Spain. This move aims to address the current labor market demand in Spain. The scheme will also help undocumented migrants settle in Spain as legal residents by streamlining their application process.

Labour Market Demands in Spain
According to recent statistical data, Spain needs around 250,000 workers to strengthen its economy. Around 54,000 migrants arrived in Spain between January and November 2024. The Spanish government has introduced the new policy to address the labour shortage issue in the country.
Under the new policy, the government will be streamlining the application process for obtaining work and residence permits in Spain, allowing migrants to register themselves as self-employed or salaries workers.
