Russia has rolled out a new scheme in order to allow soccer fans to enter its shores without a visa for the 2018 World Cup and Confederations Cup 2017. Vladimir Putin, Russian President, had signed a law to the effect.

ESPN FC was quoted by Khaleej Times as saying that soccer buffs with tickets have been assigned a 'fan ID' by the government of Russia, allowing them to enter the former Soviet Republic without a visa. This visa-free offer can be availed by the fans only during the tournaments.

The Russian Embassy in the United States also issued a statement about this offer. According to the statement, visitors to Russia during both the tournaments need to have in person their passports as well as their fan IDs.

The 2018 World Cup organised by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) will be held during 14 June-15 July 2018 in various Russian cities, including Moscow, Volgograd and St Petersburg. On the other hand, the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 will be staged during 17 June-2 July 2017 in Moscow, Sochi, St. Petersburg and Kazan.

If you are looking to travel to Russia, get in touch with Y-Axis, a leading immigration consultancy firm, to file for a visa.
