Singapore's New Framework for Skilled Worker Visa

The Singapore IT industry has announced a points-based system as selection criteria for skilled worker visa candidates. Only eight Indian universities qualify for the point-based system, while all nationalities are to be given equal weightage.

Singapore will be implementing the new framework from September 01, 2024. Renewal applicants must score at least 40 points under the new Complementarity Assessment Framework (COMPASS) and meet the salary requirements to acquire the Singapore Employment Pass.

IIITs are the top choice for Singapore when selecting candidates for the visa. Graduates from IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay can get 20 points, while those from the other IITS and IISCs will get 10 points under the qualifications pillar of COMPASS.

The vice president of Global Trade development at Nasscom, Shivendra Singh, reported that Singapore needs skilled digital talents. The country is inviting skilled professionals on non-immigrant visas and the Employment Pass (EP).

In a recent announcement, Singh commented, “India is known as a global hub for digital talent. Given our focus on STEM education, there is a large pool of digitally skilled workforce available in India as compared to the rest of the world”.
