Singapore plans to issue work permits under three major sectors

Singapore permits restaurants to employ Indian cooks in order to address a labor shortage. Indian cooks have been added to Singapore’s list of authorized hires in an effort to address the labor shortages in the country’s hospitality industry.

 

This action aims to increase the talent pool for particular job roles in the hospitality, manufacturing and services sectors.

 

Singapore issued work permits (under manufacturing and service sectors) to individuals from nations like:

  • China
  • Malaysia
  • Hong Kong
  • Macau
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan

Recently, the application review process for cooks employed by Indian restaurants within the city-state was introduced by the Ministry of Manpower.

 

Starting on September 1, companies interested in hiring people with work permits from non- traditional sources (NTS) can start submitting their application online.

 

NTS countries include nations like Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

 

Indian chefs can now get hired by Singapore restaurants

Indian cooks are now eligible to be hired by people with work permits, following the lead of housekeepers and porters as a result of this development:

  • According to the Straits Times newspaper, the updated NTS Occupation List includes jobs like welders, food processing workers, and Indian restaurant cooks. It was first presented during the 2022 budget debate.
  • These workers must receive an average annual salary of SGD 25,000 from their employers.
