The Asian Development Bank funds the Japan Scholarship Program, which mainly aims to support students from developing countries to study for a Master's in Asia and the Pacific regions. Under this program, deserving aspirants will be awarded a monthly stipend of 147,000 JPY and 100,000 JPY (every two years). The ADB JSP scholarship is awarded to 300 deserving candidates every year.

What is the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program?
The Asian Development Bank funds the Japan Scholarship Program, which mainly aims to support students from developing countries to study for a Master's in Asia and the Pacific regions. ADB-JSP is a fully-funded scholarship program that covers tuition fees, living expenses, books, residence, traveling expenses, medical insurance, etc. International students from developing countries who applied for Master's programs in science, technology, economics, management, and other fields in designated institutions can utilize this scholarship program. Eligibility for ADB-Japan Scholarship Program
To be eligible for the scholarship program, students must:
- Must be a citizen of an ADB member country.
 - Must not have dual citizenship of any developed country.
 - Have been admitted to any designated institute for any master’s course.
 - Must hold a bachelor’s degree with excellent academic scores.
 - Must have a minimum of 2 years of prior work experience.
 - Hold proof of English language proficiency.
 - The age of the candidate must not be more than 35 years.
 - Must agree to return to their country for at least two years after completing the studies.

Selection Process
The ADB-JSP scholarship program selection process is as follows.
- Every institution in Japan submits the list of qualified applicants to the ADB.
 - The ADB reviews and scrutinizes the list of awardees to the executive director of Japan.
 - The executive director will approve.
 - Scholars will be selected by the ADB and informed to the institutions.

How to apply for the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program?
To apply for the application, follow the given steps:
Step 1: Apply for the application form from the institution which is a program member.
Step 2: Applicant must fulfill the required documents for the application, including the ADB-JSP sheet.
Step 3: Send the documents to the institution.
Step 4: The Institute evaluates and sends the shortlist of candidates.
Step 5: ADB awardees are selected based on selection criteria prepared by the Japanese executive director.
Step 6: ADB selects the candidates and informs the institution and the candidate.

- The ADB JSP program enrolls 300 students each year from 9 countries.
 - Since 1988, the JSP scholarship has been awarded to 3917 scholars from 37 countries. The scholarship was awarded to 1515 women.
 - The JSP program offers scholarships to 135 graduate programs for business and management, science and technology, economics, and other development-related fields.
 - In 2022, Japan granted scholarships to 68 new scholars, 64.2% of the total scholarships. Five scholars were selected from Singapore and the United States, 4.7%, and students from developing countries, 33 scholars, 31.1% of the total.
