The Romanian Govt. has approved 20,000 Work Permits for 2019 for non-EU nationals. The number is double of what was approved in 2018 and 4 times that of 2017.

As per figures released by Profit.ro,
Romania mainly imported foreign workers from Turkey and China in its first 10
years as an EU member. Every year it hired around 400 to 600 foreign workers.
The annual quotas were pegged at a range of 1,400 to 2,900.

However, major changes were seen in 2008
and 2009. Before the economic recession
in 2008, Romania issued 14,884 Work Permits. 4,832 of these were issued to
Turkey and 4,683 to China.
1,202 Work Permits went to the Republic of
Moldova. More than 10,000 of these Work Permits were issued to permanent
workers in Romania.

In
2009, Romania issued 4,800 Work Permits to foreign workers.
1,405 Work Permits were issued to Turkish workers while 1,395 were
issued to Chinese workers.

In the recent past, however, the number of
foreign workers in Romania declined.

In 2017, 4,923 Work Permits were issued to
foreign workers. The numbers doubled in 2018 with 9,442 Work Permits being
issued, as per the Romania Insider.
