For 2015-16 the numbers of overseas students increased by 9.4% in the US. The increase was 10.7% in Australia and for Germany, it was 8.7%. However, the UK had a dismal increase of just 0.5%.

These would be a crucial source of UK’s soft power after the Brexit, he added. It would also send a message to the remaining world that the UK is a welcoming nation, said Smith.
Sir Steve Smith added that the UK is at risk of losing its position as one among the top leaders in overseas education. The nation is witnessing a decrease in the numbers through the overseas education market is buoyant, he said.
