Hong Kong has unveiled the list of 11 types of overseas talents who can immigrate to the nation even without a job offer. This is under its Quality Migrant Admission Scheme. It is a move to attract qualified overseas professionals to Hong Kong.
The Labour and Welfare Bureau of Hong Kong said that the QMAS has been updated to attract overseas talents. This is to support the development of the city as a diversified and high-value-added economy, it added.
The updated QMAS specifies professions in the professional and financial services industries that are its pillar sectors. These include Technology, Law, Financial Services, and Investment Management. It also includes Naval Architects, Waste treatment Specialists, and Ship Superintendents. Talents in creative industries such as Game Music and Design are also included.
Y-Axis Immigration Expert Usha Rajesh has said that the list intends to support the city’s 360* development. It is less regarding offering workers for sectors that have the scarcity of manpower. The list of talents outline the unique professionals needed for economic development of Hong Kong, she added.
The updated QMAS list includes professions influenced by the long-term initiatives and policies of the government. It is inclusive of Waste Management, and Overseas Maritime Industry, as quoted by the SCMP.
The 11 types of overseas talents who can immigrate to Hong Kong even without a job offer are:
- Skilled Waste Treatment Engineers / Specialists
- Skilled Management Professionals in Asset Management that includes but not limited to Management of Trust Fund
- Marine Insurance Skilled Professionals
- Actuaries
- Fintech Skilled Professionals
- Skilled Cyber Security Specialists and Data Scientists
- Experts in Innovation and technology in fields such as Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences, Materials Science/Nanotechnology and Data Engineering
- Naval Architects
- Superintendents of Ships and Marine Engineers
- Professionals in Creative industries in Digital Entertainment, Film, Music, and Game Production
- Professionals in Dispute Resolution
