Immigrants in the Express Entry Pool can benefit from various Provincial Immigration Programs in Ontario, Nova, Alberta, and Scotia. The Canadian Government uses these programs to get experienced and skilled profiles from the pool. Selected Immigrants are notified of the province’s interest. They get an invite to apply for the Canada PR under the respective Provincial Immigration Programs.
The Provincial Immigration Programs are
often called the passive way of attaining the Canada PR. Immigrants must get
the nomination to be able to apply for the Canada PR. However, once nominated, they receive an additional 600 points
toward their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
Let’s have a quick look at three main
Provincial Immigration Programs.
Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia’s Provincial Immigration
Program runs occasional searches of the Express Entry Pool for suitable
profiles. The profiles must have experience in professions facing a labor shortage
in the province. This program was
created in August 2018. It has conducted only two searches since then.
The first search was conducted for
childhood educators and assistants. The second search was targeted at financial
auditors and accountants.
Immigrants must accurately declare their
experience in the Express Entry Profile. This would improve their chances of
getting noticed by the province.
Alberta
Alberta’s Provincial Immigration Program
was introduced in 2018. The candidate must have gathered a score of at least
300 CRS points to be eligible for this program. Also, their experience must be
able to support the province’s economic development. Meeting one or more of the following criteria would increase their
chances of getting the nomination -
- A job offer from
Alberta - Work experience
in Alberta - A degree from a
Canadian post-secondary institution - A sibling or
child living in Alberta
Ontario
Ontario’s
Provincial Immigration Program has invited the most Immigrants so far, as quoted by CIC News. In January 2019,
this province issued nearly 1500 notifications of interest. Candidates must
score a minimum of 439 CRS points to be eligible for this program. The searches
are limited to the Federal Skilled Worker Class and Canadian Experience class.
