Post-graduation work permit
A post-graduation work permit is granted to foreign students who have completed their studies in Canada. Post-graduation work permit holders can work anywhere in Canada for any employer. They can work for as many hours as they like in Canada. The time period of your PGWP depends on the duration of your study program or the expiry date of your passport.

Eligibility for a PGWP
The eligibility requirements for the PGWP are:
- You should have graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI); a DLI is approved by a school or territorial government in Canada for international students.
- You should be staying in Canada temporarily to work.
- Graduates of study programs that are at least for a period of two years.
- Graduates of master’s degree programs who have been in the program for less than two years are eligible.

How long does it take to get a PGWP?
Applicants are allowed to work in Canada while awaiting the processing of their PGWP, but they should have submitted their application before their study permit expires. You have 180 days within which you must apply for your PGWP from the time you finish your study program. You can now apply for a Post-graduation work permit from abroad if you leave Canada after completing your education.
