Open Work Permit Pilot for sponsored spouses in Canada has been extended by the Canadian government. It is applicable for sponsored partners who are applying for Canada PR.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada IRCC has released an update in this regard. It elaborates that Common-Law Partner or Spouse in Canada Class pilot program has been extended until 31 January 2019. It will ensure that applicants can continue to offer for their families, work and add to the economy of Canada. Meanwhile, their PR applications get processed, said IRCC, as quoted by the CIC News.
Open Work Permit is applicable for partners and spouses residing in Canada sponsored by citizens or PR holders in Canada. They must have an authentic provisional resident status while their PR applications are being processed under SCLPC. This can be a worker, student or visitor. They must also reside at the same geographical address as that of their sponsor.
The latest extension is the third extension for the Open Work Permit Pilot started in 2014. It is a popular program for immigrants. The extension was due to expire on 21 December after the last extension on 7 December 2016.
IRCC said that reunification of families is a crucial immigration main concern for the Canadian government. The integration outcomes are enhanced when families can reside and work jointly, it added.
Applicants who are presenting a fresh application through the Open Work Permit Pilot can submit labor permit application too along with the application for sponsorship. They can also submit an application for PR. Applicants who are yet to receive work permit but who have previously submitted a PR application can submit a separate labor permit application.
