The Ontario Govt. has revealed that it will target EE candidates from the technology sector in the upcoming draws.
Previously, Ontario had announced that it may introduce a
stream dedicated only to tech workers. Instead, it now plans to hold invitation
rounds targeting 6 tech-related occupations under its Human Capital Priorities
Stream.
Ontario is one of the most favourite provinces to settle in
for PR newcomers who have been admitted through the EE Program. 65% of the new immigrants in 2018 had
listed Ontario as their destination province in Canada.
To qualify for an Ontario Tech draw, candidates will first
need to create an online Express Entry profile.
Ontario has a thriving tech sector with major tech hubs in
cities like Ottawa, Toronto, and
Kitchener-Waterloo.
Like the rest of
Canada, Ontario too, is facing a shortage of tech workers. An estimated 220,000
tech workers will be needed in the Information & Communication Technology
Sector of Canada by 2021.
Ontario uses its Human Capital Priorities Stream to target
EE candidates who match certain provincial and federal criteria, as per CIC
News.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) will target
tech-workers in these occupations:
- 2173: Software Engineers & Designers
- 2174: Computer Programmers & Interactive
Media Developers - 2147: Computer Engineers
- 2175: Web Designers & Developers
- 2172: Database Analysts & Data
Administrators - 0213: Computer & Information Systems
Managers
You do not require
a job offer from Ontario to apply under the Human Capital Priorities Stream.
Also, this stream has
a history of inviting Express Entry candidates even with a low CRS score.
Successful applicants who receive a Notification of Interest
from OINP will need to submit their provincial nomination applications within
45 days.
Ontario receives an annual quota for nomination through the
Canadian Govt’s Provincial Nominee Program. Ontario’s annual allocation has
steadily risen over the last 6 years with 6,900 for 2019.
