The Nanyang
Technological University has claimed the top place as the #1 Overseas
University in Top 50 Under 50 Quacquarelli
Symonds rankings. NTU has claimed the top ranking for the 6th consecutive
year.
The latest
rankings of the youngest top-performing institutions in the world for 2020 were
announced by the London education consultancy firm. The Top 50 Under 50
Quacquarelli Symonds rankings were first announced in 2012, as quoted by the
Independent SG. As Universities older than fifty years are eliminated every
year, the list faces much change.
The Top 50 list
implements the same methodology similar
to World Ranking University QS to rank academic institutions. The 6
indicators that are considered are:
• Academic
standing
• Employer
repute
• Research
citations per faculty member
• Student /
faculty ratio
• Percentage
of overseas students
• Percentage
of overseas faculty members
The most prized
factor in the Overseas University rankings of QS is the academic reputation.
Initially known
as the Nanyang Technological Institute,
the Nanyang Technological University was established in 1981. The current
ranking is an extraordinary achievement for Singapore and NTU said a
spokesperson for the Nanyang Technological University.
NTU is the only University in Singapore in the Top 50
QS ranking having a 91.8 weighted score. With a score of 24.9, Singapore
Management University was ranked among the 71-80 position.
Both the National University of Singapore and
Nanyang Technological University are tied at the 11th position overall in the
Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2020.
