Noncompliance of new rules that have become effective from 17 April 2019 can result in shortening or cancellation of your Australia Visa. This is if a person on Visitor Visa/Temporary Visa fails to announce banned things upon arrival to Australia.
What can you
carry/not carry to Australia?
Food
You are
permitted to carry Oil, Maple syrup, Chocolate, Cake, Bread, Biscuits, and
Coffee. One must announce if they carry Dairy products, Nuts, Rice, Pickles,
Spices, and Tea.
Medicines
Medications for
personal use are permitted. Nevertheless, you must carry a copy of the
prescription or letter from the Doctor (written in English). It must certify
that the medications have been prescribed for treating a medical condition. It
must be ensured that the medicine quantity does not surpass 3 months supply.
Your Laptop and Phone
Your electronic
devices can be checked by the Australian Customs Officials for porn. If you are
found having unlawful material, you can be fined for up to $ 525,000 and or
face detention for 10 years.
Seeds, Flowers, and Plants
Live plants are
not permitted. ABF advises that most live plants must not be carried to
Australia. This is unless if you possess a legal import permit from the
Department of Water Resources and Agriculture. One must declare if they are
carrying seeds, as quoted by the SBS.
Festive or Seasonal items
Many immigrants
carry special items to Australia related to festivals in India such as Lohri,
Rakhi, and Diwali. ABF advises strongly that one must announce anything that
they are sending or bringing. This is for being examined by its staff on the
border.
It is also
advised by ABF that one must not carry Nuts, Dried fruits, Flowers, and fresh
Fruits. It also includes Indian sweets like Pedas, Rasgulla, Ras malai, and
Burfi.
Apart from the
above categories, there are several things on the list that are banned or must
be declared while being carried to Australia. Failure to comply with these
rules can result in curtailing or termination of your Australia Visa.
