New Zealand's immigration policies to rebuild the economy

Erica Stanford, New Zealand Immigration Minister, has made a few changes to the Accredited Employer Worker Visa to attract skilled migrants worldwide. The new changes help to prioritize local workers and associate them with economic needs. Erica Stanford said, “The New Zealand Government is concentrated more on bringing new highly skilled immigrants, where there is a skill shortage.”

Key changes made for Accredited Employer Worker Visa

  • English language requirements have been introduced for immigrants applying for low-skilled roles at levels 4 and 5.
  • A minimum work experience criteria and skills were introduced.
  • Employers willing to fill Levels 4 and 5 positions must be involved in work and income before migrant approvals.
  • The maximum continuous stay for low-skilled roles will be reduced from 5 to 3 years.
  • The franchisee license category will also be separated, and businesses must follow high-volume, standard, or triangular employment accreditation processes to hire overseas workers.
