The new
sponsored Subclass 870 Australia Parent
Visa will be available for immigrants from April this year. They will be
able to file a sponsorship application to bring over their parents to Australia
for longer periods.
David Coleman the Minister
of Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs in Australia made this
announcement. He said that around 15,000
sponsored Subclass 870 Visas will be offered annually. The sponsors will be
able to file a sponsorship application for their parents from 17 April, he added.
The legislation for this new Australia Parent Visa was passed in November 2018. It permits sponsors to bring over their parents to Australia for longer periods, as quoted by the SBS.
A sponsored
parent can apply for a sponsored Subclass 870 Australia Parent Visa upon
approval of the sponsorship application. This visa offers a new Australia immigration pathway to
overseas parents and grandparents. They can reunite and spend time with
their family members. This is by visiting Australia for a permanent 5 years
period.
The parents will
also have a chance to apply a second
time for another 5 year Visa. This is after a brief stay outside Australia.
It implies that the parents and grandparents will be able to reside for up to 10 years in Australia.
David Coleman
elaborated on the benefits of the new Subclass 870 Australia Parent Visa. It
will offer enhanced social benefits to
families in Australia, he said. It will ensure reunions for several
families. This will result in a huge difference to several families in
Australia, added Coleman.
Measures have
been outlined to reinforce the framework for this new Australia Visa. These
mandate sponsors in Australia to act as
fiscal guarantor for any outstanding costs for public health. This is
incurred by the Visa holder while residing in Australia. It includes aged care and hospital fees.
It ensures that additional costs are not required to be covered by the
taxpayers.
