Columbia has introduced new rules to its immigration regime. These include new Entry and Residence Visas and biometric ID for Colombians. The country will also introduce a Border Mobility Card for nationals of neighbouring countries.
The new regulations were introduced under Resolution 3167 of 2019. The resolution deals with the entry of foreign nationals into the country and has come into effect from 1st December 2019.
Here are a few key changes:
- Columbia has introduced a new classification for entry and stay permits. The scope of activities that are permitted on these visas has also been amended.
- Columbia has implemented the Border Mobility Card as an alternative travel document to a passport. Citizens of neighbouring countries may be issued these cards.
- The CAN-MERCOSUR Electronic Card has been implemented as an alternative travel document to the passport
- Biometrics authentication has been implemented for Colombian citizens
- Besides the citizens of MERCOSUR, CAN and Pacific alliance countries, visa-free travel will now also be available to Permanent Residents of these countries
