South Australia
has implemented new immigration rules that have now become effective. Also, it
has also published the new Skilled
Occupations List as well as Supplementary
List. An expanded SNOL - State
Nominated Occupation List has been announced for 2019-20. 275 Occupations
are now available for applicants living in South Australia or overseas.
The changes must
be noted by all applicants of State Sponsorship from South Australia through Subclasses 489 and 190 Visas. The
occupations that feature on the SNOL include Trade, STEM, Social Welfare, ICT,
and Health.
Below is the
brief of the new immigration rules that have become operational from July 2019:
High points:
SA continues to
sponsor through High Points who have at least 80 points. This is on the point’s
test of the Home Affairs Department inclusive of points for state nomination.
There are
allocations for the category of High Points. The minimum required points can
increase during the program year. Certain occupations can also be closed for
nomination under High Points, as quoted by the SBS.
ICT occupations:
ICT occupations
applicants will be needed to have at least 75 points. This is on the point’s
test of the Home Affairs Department inclusive of ACS Skills assessment. It is
also inclusive of points for state nomination.
However,
applicants under 2 categories are required to have 65 points for occupations
under ICT. These are:
• Currently working in South Australia
• Overseas graduates of South Australia
International students who have been long-term
residents of South Australia:
Immigration SA
will continue with the category long-term resident of South Australia. This
policy acknowledges the former and existing students who have remained and
contributed to SA. It is for many years demonstrating their continued
commitment to SA.
A small change
has been implemented. Overseas students who have stayed in South Australia for
a continuous 7 years in the past can apply.
Immigration
South Australia will offer State Nomination under Provisional Subclass 489 Visa to an applicant who:
• Is a former or current overseas student
staying in SA
• Has stayed in SA continuously for the past
7 years at the time of filing the application and continues to live in the
state
• Is working currently in SA in any
occupation for minimum past 3 months for at least 40 hours fortnightly that is
not necessarily at skill level; or
• Pursuing a course that has a duration of at
