A new 2-year Canada immigration pilot has been announced by Ahmed Hussen the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Minister. This is for some family members who were formerly barred from obtaining permanent residence in Canada. They can now be sponsored for Canada PR by their eligible family member/relative in Canada.
The new Canada
immigration pilot pertains to family
members who were not accompanying and were not declared. They were thus not
scrutinized by IRCC authorities when the sponsor filed an application for
Canada PR Visa.
These family
members had been disqualified for sponsorship under the Family Class Program.
This is under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations in
Canada, Section 117(9) (d). Thus ban for a lifetime has been controversial
for a long time now. The Canadian Council for Refugees termed it a major
obstacle for family reunification in Canada.
The CCR issued a
brief on the issue and said that section 117(9) (d) has an undue negative
impact. This is on the refugees and susceptible immigrants who do not disclose
a member of a family, it added.
The Immigration
Minister of Canada Ahmed Hussen agreed that the rule was unjust. Newly arrived
immigrants who failed to announce immediate members of a family were barred
from sponsoring them to Canada. We have
not set right this mistake, he added.
The sponsors
covered by the new Canada immigration pilot have been defined by IRCC as:
• Resettled refugees
• Those who have been conferred the refugee
protection in Canada
• Those who have sponsored themselves as a
dependent child, partner or spouse
The pilot
program will operate from 9 September 2019 to 9 September 2021. IRCC said that
applications that are already being processed will benefit, as quoted by the
CIC News.
From June 4,
IRCC will permit immigrant workers to apply for an Open Work Permit. These must be having an employer-specific Work Visa
and in a cruel job situation. IRCC said that this will permit immigrant workers
to immediately quit the employer. They can maintain their status and look for
another job, it added.
IRCC will also
bring in modifications to permit newly arrived immigrants to apply for Provisional Resident Permit. This is
from 26 July and for those who are experiencing family violence. The permit
will offer lawful status to these individuals in Canada. It will also offer
them health care coverage and Canada
Work Visa.
