The income requirement for the new Australia Parent Visa has been specified to be a taxable income of $83,454.80. The amount was specified by David Coleman the Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Minister. This was in the latest legislative instrument.
The Minister had
declared in April that the applications for sponsoring a parent via
the new Visa would be opened from 17th of the month. The concerned parent
has to apply for the new Australia Parent Visa upon approval of the sponsorship
application. The Visa applications are
likely to open from July 1, 2019.
The Temporary Subclass 870 Sponsored Parent
Visa offers grandparents and parents a new route for reuniting with their children.
They can remain with them for a continuous period of 5 years, as quoted by the
SBS.
The parents and
grandparents also have a chance to apply for an extra 5 years period of stay.
This is after a small period of stay overseas. It implies that they can spend totally ten years in
Australia. The income requirement for the consequent sponsorship was not
clarified, however.
Y-Axis Immigration Expert Usha Rajesh said that now the income requisite has been announced. One must
possess an income of minimum $83,454.80 for qualifying to sponsor the parents
for the Visa, she added.
The Immigration
Expert said that the application fee for
the 3-year Visa is $5,000 while the sponsorship fee is $ 420. It has been
announced that the income of $83,454.80 has to be proved by the applicant. This
can also be joint family earnings, said Ms. Rajesh.
The Temporary
Subclass 870 Sponsored Parent Visa is aimed
at permitting parents of immigrants to remain for a longer period in Australia.
The income
ceiling and other Visa conditions have made some immigrants irate. The
Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Minister has however
justified the income requirement. He said that it is necessary to ensure that the new Visa does not become a burden on
the taxpayer.
