Early Life and Values from the Countryside
I grew up in the countryside near one of India’s biggest cities, not because we couldn’t afford city life, but because my parents deeply valued nature and simplicity. They wanted my brother and me to understand real-life values from an early age. We had a large backyard and a front garden where we spent most of our childhood playing games, growing vegetables, and planting trees together as a family.
Living close to nature taught me self-reliance, sustainability, and respect for the environment. Those early years shaped my thinking and slowly built the foundation for the career I would later choose.
Choosing Architecture with a Purpose
After completing my 12th standard, I became more aware of how important sustainability is in today’s world. I strongly believe that construction and development should be environmentally responsible. This belief motivated me to choose the Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) as my career path.
I secured admission to a good college and completed the five-year architecture program. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in designing structures that blended functionality with sustainability. I initially planned to pursue a master’s degree to deepen my knowledge, but my father advised me to gain practical work experience first to better understand the real-world challenges of the profession.
Early Career as a Landscape Architect
Following my interest, I started working as a Landscape Architect with a company in a nearby city. Over two years, I gained hands-on experience and learned many practical aspects of the profession. This phase helped me understand how design decisions impact the environment and communities.
However, I soon realized that opportunities for landscape architects in India were limited. Around the same time, I came to know that one of my classmates was working in Canada in the same field. Curious and hopeful, I reached out to her to understand her journey.
Discovering the Canada Immigration Path
My classmate shared her experience of migrating to Canada and mentioned that she had taken support from Y-Axis, an immigration consultancy that handled her entire process. Her success inspired confidence in me, and I decided to explore the same path.
I contacted Y-Axis, and from the very first interaction, my experience was extremely positive. Their team explained the Canadian immigration process clearly and took responsibility for guiding me through every stage. This gave me peace of mind and allowed me to focus on my career goals.
Understanding the Express Entry System
Y-Axis introduced me to Canada’s Express Entry system, which is managed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This system is designed to invite skilled professionals from around the world to fill labor shortages in Canada.
They explained how Express Entry works, the eligibility requirements, and how my background as an architect aligned well with Canada’s demand for skilled professionals.

Starting a New Life in Toronto, Canada
About six months later, I received confirmation from IRCC and soon arrived in Toronto, Ontario. My entire family came to see me off, making the moment unforgettable. I secured an opportunity to work with a Toronto-based company and began settling into my new professional life.
Initially, we searched for accommodation, and my family stayed with me for a short time. We even traveled together across Canada for a week before they returned to India.
Life in Canada Today
Today, I am working in my field and continuing my journey as an architect in Canada. The exposure, work culture, and opportunities here have exceeded my expectations. Looking back, I truly believe this journey would not have been so smooth without the guidance and dedication of Y-Axis.
