Increase in Payroll employment.
In February 2024, payroll employment in public administration increased by 6,600, and finance and insurance increased by 6,400. The increase in the public administration sector concentrated more on local, municipal, and regional public administration by 0.9%. Year over year, payroll employment in the public administration sector increased by 56,500, and finance and insurance increased by 14,200 in February.

In February 2024, the number of job vacancies in Canada increased to 656,700. The monthly increase in overall job vacancies was mostly in sectors like transportation, warehousing, finance, and insurance. In finance and insurance, job vacancies increased by 4,100. The job vacancy rate in transportation and warehousing was 4.7%, and 3.2% in finance and insurance.
There were around 128,200 job vacancies in health care and social assistance. Year over year, labor demand increased by 3.3% in these fields.
