Japanese companies hire IT workers
Content

As demand is increasing for IT Engineers in Japan, many companies are hiring foreign workers.

By the year 2030, it is estimated that there will be a shortage of 600,000 IT professionals in Japan. In order to tackle this issue, manpower agencies reportedly plan to strengthen their efforts to hire IT workers from Asian countries.

Likewise, a program by the name PIITS (Project Indian Institutes of Technology) has been launched in Japan to invite students from the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) to intern at Japanese companies.

The Japan Times, meanwhile, organised a forum in June to improve the discussion regarding the shortage of IT engineers in Japan.

Shigeo Mizuno, director and corporate vice president of Fujifilm Software, was quoted by The Japan Time as saying that as Japan has an aging population, low birth rate and a shrinking workforce, it is very tough for firms in this East Asian country to last if they hire only locals.

Toyoaki Machida, the Japanese general manager of the global section at Webstaff, said that the PIITs program was providing IIT Students from India a two-month internship and is aiming to create full-time employment in the future for them at Japanese firms.

Shubham Jain, an undergraduate student at the IIT (Jodhpur), said that IITs are the top institutes in India and their students are normally very skilled. Besides knowledge, they also need to develop in a wholesome manner, which would help them communicate with people all over the world, he added. Soft skills are very important, but they do not find them in small firms or startups in India. This communication, however, exists in India, and he would benefit from it, added Jain.
