The
Indo-American population in the US increased by 38% in the 7 years period during 2010 and 2017. This has been
revealed by the latest demographic report by a South Asian advocacy group.
The
Indo-American population with multiple ethnicities in 2017 was recorded to be 44, 02,363. This was an increase of
38.3% in comparison with 31, 83, 063 in 2010. This was as per the report by
SAALT - South Asian Americans Leading
Together.
SAALT said that
there are minimum 630,000 undocumented Indians in the US. This is an increase
of 72% from 2010, it added. The increase in unlawful Indo-Americans is due to
them overstaying their US Visas. Roughly
250,000 Indians stayed beyond the validity of their Visa in the US in 2016
prior to becoming undocumented.
The population
of US residents tracing their roots to South Asia increased by 40% in general.
SAALT said in real terms it increased to 5.4 million in 2017 from 35 million in
2010, as quoted by the Economic Times.
