Australia PR access has now been offered to skilled immigrant workers on TSS Visas and non-operational 457 Visas. This is under the changes to the DILA - Dairy Industry Labour Agreement.
Dairy farmers in
South-west Victoria have welcomed the Visa changes in the Federal budget. This
will enable them to obtain more skilled
and permanent workforce, they added.
Changes to the
Australia SOL - Skilled Occupation List
was announced the Federal budget. This has opened pathways for skilled
immigrants to obtain Australia PR. It will assist in solving the crisis in the
Dairy industry due to a shortage of skilled workers.
Overseas workers
employed through DILA must be holding either of the 2 Visas for a minimum of 3
years. They must be nominated by the same employer for the ENS - Employer Nomination Scheme Visa.
Australian Dairy Farmers
the top dairy farmer group lauded the Visa changes. The organization had
written last year to David Coleman the Immigration Minister and urged him to
support the industry.
Terry Richardson the ADF President said that this is a wonderful result, as quoted by the ADF Farm
online. We appreciate the efforts of the
Minister in heeding to the industry and working with us constructively. This is
to address the scarcity of skilled workers that is harming the dairy business,
he added.
Richardson said
that the Australia PR pathway is crucial to ensure that Dairy farmers can
attract skilled overseas immigrant workers. These will overlook Australia if they can obtain PR Visa in other nations, he
added.
Oonagh
Kilpatrick from Koroit in Victoria said that the decision is very positive especially for larger farms. She owns 750
cows along with her husband Harper. There is a huge scarcity of skilled
workers, she said. There are farmers who are looking to downsizing or exiting
the industry, informed Kilpatrick.
The development has been hampered due to lack
of skilled workers said, Oonagh Kilpatrick. Every single dollar that the
Dairy industry generates has a multiplication factor of 4 to 5 dollars in the
larger community, she said.
