Once issued, The EU Blue card is valid for a maximum of four years, after which it can be renewed. The Blue card is initially granted for the duration of your job contract, with an additional three months. With an EU Blue card, you can live and work for 1-4 years, depending on the EU member state country you have chosen to work in. Individuals with an employment contract with a validity of more than 12 months but less than three years are issued an EU blue card valid for that timeframe (30 months). For those with an expiring EU blue card, applying for a renewal at least eight weeks before the card expires is recommended.  If the Blue card expires while they are still in the EU state country, they are given three extra months to look for employment to extend the card.
