Germany introduces new measures for Indian professionals
On October 16, 2024, the Chancellor’s Cabinet passed a draft containing 30 different measures aimed at attracting more Indian professionals to Germany. Efforts are being made to facilitate an efficient and regulated easy migration process for Indians. Germany is currently looking for skilled Indian workers to address the workforce shortage in in-demand professions.
Some of the measures that are expected to be implemented are:
- Digitalization of visas by 2024
- Reducing the visa processing time for Indian workers to 2 weeks from 9 months
- German language assistance classes for Indians moving to Germany

137,000+ Indians are currently working in Germany
As of February 2024, around 137,000+ Indians are working in Germany, an increase of 23,000 workers compared to the 2023 statistics. The unemployment rate of Indians living in Germany without jobs is 3.7%, lower than the overall unemployment rate of 7.1%.
