Germany grants record number of family visas in 2023
The German Federal Foreign Office has reported a significant milestone in family reunification visas, by granting a record-breaking number of 121,000 visas to non-EU citizens from beginning of the year to November 2023, and allowed a number of migrants to enter the country through this programme. This marks a significant increase and has surpassed from the records that have been set for previous years.

Visas granted in 2023 surpassed the previous year’s record
According to Nius, there were 930,000 migrants who have entered Germany since 2015 through the family reunification programme. The number of applications has also increased over these years. Germany has issued record number of visas over the past years, and the visas granted in 2023 have surpassed all the previous records.

Family members can gain the right to work in Germany
The German government allows spouses, parents, registered partners, minors, and unmarried children to immigrate and to join their families in Germany through the family reunification programme.
Once the family members are permitted to enter Germany, they will gain the right to work as long as they have a valid residency permit.

Certain eligibility criteria must be met by family members
Family members seeking this visa must meet certain requirements, such as having a valid passport. They also must prove they have a clean criminal record and must not pose any threat to nation’s safety.
Family members in Germany are required to provide with documentation financial stability, having health insurance, owning a valid residence permit, and ensuring sufficient housing space for their family.
The family reunification visa costs €75, while the cost for minors under the age of eighteen is €37.50.
