Opinions of Experts on Australia’s new visa rules
Experts said, “The new rules made by Australia are going to impact students without strong English skills who are studying small courses with an eye on migration through the student visa route.” They also said the country will face a shortage of skilled workers with these new rules.
“Earlier, there was a smooth intake of immigrants to Australia and Canada – now that is no longer a differentiator,” said Amitabh Jhingan, partner at EY Parthenon. “The number of immigrants will shift back to the US, and some European countries will also be benefitted,” he said.
A student at Australia’s Torrens University, Tasmey Lukhi, said that because of these difficult rules, students will prefer going to other universities in different countries that have less competition.

Increase in English proficiency score
With the new rules, Australia has decided to increase the English proficiency score from 5.5 to 6 for student visa applications.
Adarsh Khandelwal, the cofounder of Collegify, said, “Implementing new immigration rules is appropriate now but will not reduce the problems for students without degrees or strong English skills”
