Chinese immigration rules are all set to be relaxed by the Ministry of Public Security. This will open the doors to more high-skilled overseas workers. It will also allow a greater number of foreigners to become Chinese Permanent Residents.
The relaxation in
Visa rules will be effective from August this year. The new rules will also
allow top talent from overseas to apply for long-term visas. The rules will
also be relaxed to attract more foreign entrepreneurs to set up their
businesses in China.
Earlier only those foreigners who made outstanding
contributions while in China or those who filled skill gaps were allowed to
become PRs. From August onwards,
foreigners whose skills are in-demand and who meet the income threshold will be
allowed to apply for Permanent Residence. They can also include their
spouse and children in their PR application.
Under the new visa
rules, the following will also make you eligible for Permanent Residence:
- People who have worked in China continuously for
4 years and have been a resident for at least 6 months - Those whose annual income is six times more than
the average worker’s pay in the Chinese city that they live in - Foreigners who pay at least 20% of their income
in taxes
The average salary in Beijing in 2018 was 94,258 Yuan. Thus,
it sets the income threshold for overseas workers at 565,548 Yuan per year, as
per Yahoo News.
The new rules will also make it easier for overseas people
of Chinese origin to apply for Permanent Residence. People with a doctoral degree would also be eligible to apply for PR. People
who have worked in important development areas for 4 years, with a stay of at
least 6 months a year in China can also apply for PR.
Chen Bin from the
State Immigration Administration said that people who come to China for
study, work or business would be allowed to apply for long-term visas. The
validity of the visas would be between 2 and 5 years.
Foreign youth who have completed their graduation from
internationally accredited Universities in the recent 2 years and who start a
business in China, will be given 2-year Residence Permits.
