Canada has announced that it would postpone the Parent and Grandparent Program to find a better way to manage intake applications.
The Parents and Grandparents Program is a very popular program in Canada. The program, generally, starts accepting applications in January every year. However, Canada has received an overwhelming number of visa applications in the last few years. Hence, the Federal Govt. says that it needs to take a step back and find a better approach to managing the huge number of applications.
Marco Mendicino, Immigration Minister, has said that the Parents and Grandparents Program will reopen next year. However, it is expected that the Govt. will reveal plans for the future intake system sometime in April this year.
The Parents and Grandparents Program of Canada had faced severe criticism in the past. The reason was the lesser number of available visa spots as compared to the flood of visa applications that the program receives.
More than 20,000 immigrants come to Canada every year through the Parents and Grandparents Program. The processing time, however, is more than two years long.
The temporary closure of the program may be disappointing to some. However, Immigration Experts believe that Canada will find a way to manage its application intake process better.
