Canadian Government has announced changes in its Post-Graduation Work Permit or PGWP program. According to the new changes, Overseas Students will have 6 months to apply for the PGWP. Also, they no longer need to have a valid Study Permit to apply for the same.
The changes were announced on February
14. The amount of time has been doubled in this enhanced PGWP program. Earlier
it was 90 days, as quoted by CIC News. Now it has been extended to 180 days.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship
(IRCC) has stated the reason for bringing these changes to the PGWP program.
Overseas Students should have adequate time to obtain the required documents to
apply for PGWP. Earlier they had to worry about an expired Study Permit. That
used to create added stress. The IRCC plans to eliminate that, thus easing the
process for Overseas Students.
This is huge news for Overseas Students
planning to apply to PGWP. They can now stay in Canada for 6 months and attain
the Canadian Work Experience. The PGWP
program lets Overseas Students live and work in Canada for up to 3 years.
The study program or degree course must be at least 8 months long for them to
be eligible.
Overseas Students
can apply to PGWP without having any Canadian job offer. It’s an open Work
Permit. Overseas
Students can work in any profession in Canada. They can also change employers
at any time. IRCC confirmed that these students can attain the Canada PR
through the Canadian Experience Class program.
The Canadian Experience Class is one of
the most popular Immigration Programs in Canada. It’s managed by the Express
Entry System. Overseas Students can avail of this program if they get PGWP. Work experience in skill level A or B or
type O in the Occupational Classification list can get them the Canada PR.
