Australia’s Tasmania

Tasmania, a state in Australia, has introduced from 1 July a new skilled visa category for skilled professionals from overseas.

With the Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 489), people can work and live in this state for four years, after which they can apply for Australia’s permanent residency.

Skilled foreign professionals are allowed to apply for this visa as offshore applicants. If they get a state nomination from Tasmania, 10 points will be added to the skilled visa applicant’s cumulative score, which is necessary to qualify for a visa under the Australia’s DIBP (Department of Immigration and Border Protection) point test.

According to Sbs.com.au, holders of these visas who work in Tasmania for a minimum of two years and in a full-time job — at least 35 hours a week — for a minimum of one year qualify to apply for permanent residency in the Land Down Under.

To apply for this visa, an applicant needs to propose an occupation from the Skilled Occupation List of Tasmania and provide adequate proof of opportunities for employment in that job category in Tasmania. In addition, applicants can also obtain authentic employment offers from employers. They can contact Tasmanian government’s website for more information.
