Students who want to study in Australia must meet specific requirements to qualify for a visa. Once enrolled in a full-time study course, you can apply for the Australia Subclass 500 visa. The Australian Student visa or the subclass 500 visa is a pathway to Australia PR, given that you have completed a specified time period after completing the course. Here is the list of essential requirements that must be submitted along with the visa application.

Electronic confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) certificate

• You must submit a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) in electronic format to process your visa application.
• This is to ensure that you are enrolled in a course of study in Australia approved by the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for International Students (CoE)
   

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Statement

• This document is required to prove that you are a Genuine Temporary Entrant, meaning your stay in Australia is temporary and will go back to home country once the studies are complete or after gaining relevant work experience in Australia. The above must be shown through your application, supporting documents and other records.
• The supporting documents are proof of economic condition in your home country, proof of immigration history, and future career prospects relevant to your course
   

Financial requirements

• You must provide proof of sufficient money to support your stay in Australia, including tuition fees, living expenses and other related costs
• The minimum financial requirement is AUD 29,710/year to cover living expenses, in effect from May 10, 2024.
• There are financial requirements for dependents if they accompany the main applicant in Australia. The minimum requirement is AUD 10,394 for spouse or de facto partner, and AUD 4,449 for children.
   

Language Proficiency in English

• You must demonstrate your proficiency in English language through tests like IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or PTE academic
• The minimum test score requirement varies depending on the university you have applied for. However, the minimum score requirement has increased from 6 to 6.5, with 5.5 being the minimum score for each test component (reading, writing, speaking and listening)
• Applicants will now have to complete the English language test within 1 year immediately before the date of the visa application.

Health requirements

• You must provide proof of good health by conducting a health check up
• This is to ensure that you meet the health and character requirements for an Australian Student visa (Subclass 500) visa
   

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

• You must have an Overseas Health Insurance Cover or OSHC (Basic medical and hospital cover). This can be purchased through your university.
• The cost of the insurance cover will depend on the insurance provider and the period of insurance
   

Character requirements

• You must show proof of no criminal record by providing a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
• You must file a form called the Character Statutory Declaration Form when submitting your visa application.
