The Australian
employers will now need a Health
Workforce Certificate for sponsoring overseas doctors. This is prior to
filing an application for nomination for any of the below Visas:
- Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Subclass 187
Visa - Employer Nomination
Scheme Subclass 186 Visa - Temporary Skills Shortage Subclass 482 Visa
The Health Department has launched an
initiative ‘Visas for GPs’ that has
commenced from March 11, 2019. This has mandated the Australian employers to
obtain an HWC, as quoted by the Mondaq.
The occupations
that are now influenced by the change are:
- 253111 ANZSCO - General Practitioner
- 253112 ANZSCO - Resident Medical Officer
- 253999 ANZSCO - Medical Practitioner classified
not elsewhere
The intention of
the initiative ‘Visas for GPs’ is to channelize
Doctors into regions that have lower access to services. These include the
regional, remote, and rural areas of Australia. It is also to avoid an excess
supply in other areas.
The condition to
get a Health Workforce Certificate aids the Government of Australia to achieve balance in the distribution of
Doctors. This is by offering the HWC only to those Australian employers who
can prove the genuine need. It is to fill a vacant role with an overseas
doctor.
Y-Axis Immigration Expert Vasanta Jaganatan elaborated on this latest update. The HWC must be uploaded to any nomination application that will be
filed after March 11, 2019. Australian employers must take note of this,
she added.
Employers who
file the application on their own must be extremely cautious. They must double
check that all mandatory documents are
offered while filing the nomination application.
The Skilling
Australia Fund has restricted refund provisions. Failure to upload all the necessary documents can lead to rejection of
the application. The application charges will also not be refunded.
