Types of Canada Work Permit
The Canada work permit visa has two categories. They are:
- Open work permit
- Closed work permit
Open work permit
This work permit would allow you to work for all eligible employers. It is prohibited for employers who offer erotic massages and services, striptease and dance. Individuals can obtain an open work permit in specific situations, such as:
- International graduate students eligible for Canada Open Work Permit Program
- Students facing financial hardship to survive in Canada
- Employees having employer-specific work permits facing abuse in the workplace
- Refugees, temporary resident permit holders, etc.
Closed work permit
This work permit allows you to work in Canada for a specific employer based on certain conditions of your permit, such as:
- Employer’s name
- Work permit’s duration
- Permitted work location (if applicable)
Difference between Canada Open Work Permit & Closed Work Permit
The primary difference between an open and closed work permit lies in their names. An open work permit will allow you to work for any employer of your choice, anywhere in Canada. It is an excellent option because it lets you switch employers if you find a better opportunity.
Whereas a closed work permit allows you to work for one specific Canadian employer mentioned on your work permit. You can work for this employer only during the time period validity on your work permit. If you want to switch jobs, you must either apply to change your work permit status or apply for a new one with the new employer.
