According to recent reports by Statistics Canada, Canada has huge job vacancies in trade occupations at the provincial and federal levels. Canada is looking for skilled tradespeople to fill these vacancies and manage the labor market gap. Besides the steps taken by IRCC, the provincial government of Alberta has launched some financial incentives to attract skilled tradespeople to the province.
The Government of Alberta launched the Alberta is Calling Program in April 2024. Under this program, the province will be providing a one-time refundable tax credit of $5000 to up to 2000 skilled tradesperson who are found eligible to fill up labour market gaps.
Candidates will be eligible for the Alberta is Calling program if they should be:
- Above 18 years of age while applying for the program
- A citizen of Canada or a PR holder
- Migrated to Alberta between May 01 and December 31, 2024
- A tax resident of Alberta as of December 31, 2024
- A resident of Alberta for a minimum of 12 months consecutively at the time of applying
